What we Believe: Our Statement of Faith
In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth and every form of life. He then created man in His own image – male and female.
Man fell prey to the devil’s deception and disobeyed God. He not only lost his connection with God but also his God-given authority over planet earth. Sin had now entered the heart of man and and he now needed a saviour.
– Genesis 1: 1, Genesis 2:7, Genesis 2:22.
God reveals His great love for mankind by sending his own Son Jesus Christ to the earth to pay the penalty for sin and to reconcile God and man.
John 3:16, 2 Corinthians 5:21
Jesus Christ is perfect Deity and perfect humanity, truly God and truly man.
He was conceived by the Holy Spirt and born of the virgin Mary.
Luke 1: 31-34, Matthew 1:18
The Bible reveals:
- His sinless life: 1 Peter 2:22, Hebrews 4:15
- His miracles: Acts 10:38
- His vicarious and atoning death through His shed blood: 1 Corinthians 15:3-4.
- His bodily resurrection and His ascension to the right hand of the Father Ephesians 1:20
- His constant intercession on our behalf: Hebrews 7:25, Hebrews 3:1
- His role as the one and only mediator between God and man: 1 Timothy 2:5.
- His personal return in power and glory: 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18
- His Millennial reign: Revelation 19:11-16, 20:1-7
What does it mean to be Born Again?
Any man or woman who believes in the sacrificial death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ and makes a heartfelt declaration of this, becomes born again into the family of God. Romans 10: 9-10 says: 9: “if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved (born again). 10: For with the heart one believes unto righteousness and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.”
Our new birth or our salvation is a gift of God’s grace and man will no longer be doomed to eternity in hell, but will live eternally in heaven. However, after you are born again you cannot freely sin, you must repent for your sins.
Ephesians 2: 8, John 3:16, Acts 2:21, John 5:24.
Baptism in the Holy Spirit
The baptism of the Holy Spirit is an experience that comes subsequent to being born again. Acts 19:2: It is the infilling of the believer with the supernatural power of the Holy Spirit to empower them for ministry and service. The initial evidence of the baptism of the Holy Spirit is speaking with other tongues.
Acts 1:8, Acts 2:4, Mathew 3:11, Mark 16:17, Acts 19:6, Acts 10:46, Luke 24:49.
We believe in the Godhead (Trinity), one true God, existing eternally in three persons: The Father, The Son and The Holy Spirit, each of whom possesses equally All three and, all are equal in deity.
John 10:30, Luke 3:21-22, Matthew 28:19, 1 John 5:7, Philippians 2:5-7, Isaiah 9:6
THE BIBLE (The Word of God)
We believe that the bible is God’s holy written word, both the whole Old and New Testaments. We believe it is inspired by God and therefore without error. It is the source of faith for all believers and therefore provides overcoming power in all circumstances.
Hebrews 4:12, Proverbs 4:20-22, Romans 10:17, John 8: 31-32, 1 Thessalonians 2:13, Psalm 119:11, 2 Timothy 3:16-17, 2 Peter 1:20-21
Water baptism is another experience subsequent to the born again experience.
It is a symbol of our dying with Christ and being resurrected in him. Our going under the water symbolises the death of our old life and our resurrection into the new.
Colossians 2:12, Acts 16:33, Acts 18:8, Acts 22:16, Romans 6:4; Matthew 3:13-17
The Lord’s Supper is the taking of the bread and drinking of the cup is a testimony of the union of the believer with Christ. It is done as an act of remembrance and proclamation of Jesus’ death on a cross and is a symbol of the new covenant, in anticipation of His return.
1 Corinthians 11: 23-30, 1 Corinthians 10:16-17.
HEAVEN AND HELL
We believe in a heaven where all those who believe in Jesus Christ go instantly after physical death. We believe in hell where all those who reject Jesus Christ as their Lord and Saviour go after their physical death. There is no transitional place between heaven or hell. To those who reject Jesus, God will sadly have to say: “depart from me, you cursed, into the everlasting fire prepared for the devil and his angels.” Note: God never intended hell to be for man.
John 3:16-18, 2 Corinthians 5:8, John 14:2, Matthew 6:19-21, Matthew 25:46, 2 Thessalonians 1:9, Revelation 20:12-15, Acts 1:11
CHURCH OF JESUS CHRIST AND THE GREAT COMMISSION
We believe that the church of Jesus Christ is made up of those whom He has called out of the kingdom of darkness, namely Christians who proclaim His name in faith, who are purified by His blood and born again by His Spirit. All those who belong to His church are called to lead a Godly life in obedience to his Word. The church has been called to preach the Gospel and make disciples worldwide, to heal the sick and to cast out demons.
Luke 10:19, 2 Corinthians 5:20, Matthew 28:18-20, Mark 6:13, Mark 16:17.
WOMEN IN MINISTRY
God will fully utilize women in whatever ministry pursuit He desires. After Jesus rose from the dead an angel appeared to the two Mary’s at the empty tomb telling them to go and tell the good news. Jesus also appeared to them first also telling them to go tell the brethren the good news, so in fact women were the first evangelists of the risen Lord.
Matthew 28: 5-10, Acts 18: 24-26, Acts 21: 8-9, Galatians 3:28, Romans 12:4-6, Acts 2:17
SANCTITY OF LIFE
We believe that life is sacred having come from God the source of all life. The sanctity of life is one of the pillars of God’s kingdom. We believe that a child in the womb is not an inanimate thing, simply subject to procedure or choice but a living human person for whom God has a destiny and a purpose. Therefore we must speak up for all life and stand against abortion and defend the life of the child in the womb.
Jeremiah 1:5, 29:11, Psalm 139:13-16.
We give as He gave. He gave His best, His only son. Therefore, because of our gratitude for that gift, we give our best. He gave us life, so with all that we have, we want to honor Him first.
The blueprint for marriage and the family was to be found in the book of Genesis. Marriage was established by God from the beginning and is an exclusive covenant, a lifetime union, between, one man and one woman.
Genesis 2:24, Genesis 1:27, Matthew 19:1-10
God created man to be with woman and woman to be with man, any union apart from this is not of God.
Leviticus 18:22, Leviticus 20:13, Romans 1:26-28
The Bible clearly teaches that the only context for sexual activity is within a lifelong monogamous marriage. All sex outside marriage is wrong. This means that fornication, and adultery and homosexual practice are wrong. Jesus said to the woman caught in adultery, “Go and sin no more.”
1 Corinthians 6:9, John 8:11.
ISRAEL AND JERUSALEM
God chose Israel, the Jewish people, and entered into an everlasting covenant with them so they might be the first fruits of a renewed humanity, who would mediate blessing and restoration to all the nations of the world. In his gracious love, God gave the Land of Israel by covenant promise to Abraham as an inheritance forever.
Therefore as Christians we stand with Israel and the Jewish people and pray for the peace of Jerusalem.
Genesis 13:15; 12:1-3, Jeremiah 31:34-36; 35-37; Psalm 122
We believe that Jesus will return in glory to be united with His church, to establish His reign of peace in Jerusalem and to judge those who reject Jesus as their saviour, at the final judgement.
Revelation 20:11-15; 21:1-4, 1 Thessalonians 4:13-17
God is love and our Christian beliefs are summed up in these words of Jesus:
“Thou shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all thy soul, and with all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like unto it, “thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.”
Matthew 22: 37-39, 1 John 4:16.
I have read and agree with the totality of the statement of faith.
